Onboarding Task List - Examples

We know how daunting it can be to get started so we have put together a list of initial tasks for you to add to your onboarding templates. These suggestions will give you a good idea of how MunaHR can help you keep on top of all your organisation and ensure onboarding goes as smoothly as possible every time.

The following prompts cover general, kitchen-specific and management-specific tasks.

General:

  • Review and sign contract and position statement – Tag employee & admin or manager
  • Add financial/payroll information – Tag employee
  • Upload profile picture – Tag employee
  • Add signature in MunaHR – tag employee
  • Welcome note (use MunaHR message system) – Tag manager or admin
  • Allocate software logins (POS, Loaded Reports) – Tag manager
  • Allocate Uniform – Tag manager
  • Show how to use timeclock/shift login/out – Tag employee & Manager
  • Training schedule set – Tag employee & manager
  • 1st Day walk through – Tag employee & manager
  • 7-day follow-up – Tag employee & manager
  • 30-day follow-up – tag employee & manager
  • Attend first huddle – Tag employee
  • Set up in payroll – Tag admin
  • Send relevant company policies – tag employee & admin/manager
  • Health & safety walk-through – tag employee & manager

Kitchen specific:

  • Recipe walk-through – Tag employee & manager
  • Specific H&S duties – Tag employee & manager
  • Walkthrough order system – Tag employee

Manager specific:

  • Allocate Key & Alarm codes – Tag Employee & Manager
  • Notify suppliers (or relevant outsiders) - Tag Manager
  • Introduce them to their employees – Tag Employee & manager
  • Host responsibility training – Employee & manager
  • If the Duty Manager updates Manager schedule notify Police & local liquor authority, print the manager on duty poster – Tag admin

Suggested Orientation Days:

Day 1:

  • Ensure everything is prepared for their first day on the job
  • Resources, name badge, uniform etc
  • Talk employee through your business’s work culture—help them better understand what kind of team they have joined and what the workplace values are.
  • Talk through the position statement/ performance expectations
  • Give them their training/orientation schedule and talk them through it

Day 14:

  • 7 training shifts should be completed
  • Achieve 100% on 14 Day orientation quiz
  • Show competency in clocking in and out
  • Passes POS use test
  • Demonstrates understanding of service/selling sequence
  • Passes the section set up test
  • Day 14 task list signed off by Manager

Top tip:

Questions to ask in your first quiz could include questions such as:

How many tables of eight can our restaurant hold?

What is our house wine?

What are the best wine matches for each dish on the menu

Day 30: 

  • 100% on 30 Day orientation quiz
  • Complete online training
  • Day 30 task list signed off by manager

Day 60:

  • 100% on 60 Day orientation quiz
  • Completed The Hospitality Company Service course
  • Completed Health & Safety 101 test
  • Day 60 task list signed off by manager

Day 90:

  • Completed all of The Hospitality Company Level 1 courses
  • 100% on 90 Day orientation quiz
  • Attended three staff meetings
  • Attend an OBM huddle
