Success starts from getting your onboarding right

    They say first impressions are important and that is as true in business as it is in real life. That’s why it is imperative that your employee’s first days in their new role are handled with care. We call this the onboarding process, and it is something we really believe in and want to help you get just right. 

Here are MunaHR’s top tips for getting the most out of the onboarding process and ensuring that your employee's introduction to your organisation sets them up for success.

Step one, coach your new team member in the culture of your business. On day one your new staff should have seen and been exposed to the purpose, mission, core values and guiding principles during the selection process. Orientation and early onboarding should see these elements come to life for the new employee through teaching, storytelling and experiencing the culture first-hand.

Step two, make sure everything they need is ready for them. The best way you can help someone succeed is by setting them up for success. And one way to do this is by equipping them appropriately. Make sure they have the things they need, such as; uniforms, badges, computers, phones, email addresses, codes etc and any other tools or equipment the employee needs should be set up and ready to go on the first day.

Step three, review the position statement and performance expectations with them. Onboarding and orientation provide a great opportunity to review the role and expectations that were discussed during the selection process. Focus on roles, responsibilities and performance very early ensures the employee will have every opportunity to contribute quickly to team goals.

Step four, give them a training schedule. This schedule, whether it is a day, week or month should be available when the new employee arrives on Day 1. This way, they know what to expect and do not have to wonder about what they will learn and when. Professional Development is an essential part of an employee's lifecycle in a business, and this should be established as soon as they start in your organisation.
