The Food Lab is a corporate catering company and a proud sister business of the iconic Charley Noble Eatery and Bar. We specialisein hosting events of all shapes and sizes, from intimate 20-person plated dinners to grand 1,000-guest canapé functions across Wellington’s most esteemed venues, including holding the status as the preferred caterer for WellingtonNZ Venues. 

About the Role: 

This role is the face of The Food Lab, representing our brand to clients and beyond. Your mission will be to deliver unforgettable experiences for our guests. Working in collaboration with our sales team, you will be responsible for managing the logistical planning and execution of events.
A day in this role may look like this:
A day completing a stock take of beverage on hand, reset the stock rooms across a 3 venues, pack out a backstage rider from the weekend, have a planning meeting with the sales team and send out a casual staff sign up sheet for next week.
A day at a 500 pax conference at the TSB arena with a team of 8 casual staff who help you setup, execute and pack down under your instruction.
A day delivering office catering around Wellington CBD followed by a canape and drinks function in a law firms’ office on the 9thfloor overlooking the harbour.

  • Delivered seated mains to 890 guests in just 21 minutes.
  • Hosted a 500-guest party spanning two floors at the St James Theatre.
  • Served 100+ guests a three-course meal on a theatre stage.
  • Organised conferences, graduations, and backstage catering for famous bands.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver outstanding guest experiences through detailed planning and clear communication.
  • Roster, manage, and motivate teams of varying sizes, ensuring clear delegation and prioritisation.
  • Control all stock on hand across various CBD venues.
  • Maintain a hands-on approach, while working closely with staff to deliver exceptional service.
  • Adapt to on-the-spot challenges with a solution-focused mindset.

About You: We’re looking for someone with:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience  in either events or restaurants.
  • A passion for hospitality and delivering memorable guest experiences.
  • Strong organisational skills, self-management, and a knack for planning and systemising processes.
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to manage both small and large teams.
  • Physical fitness to thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and variable hours based on event schedules.
  • You must have a full New Zealand Drivers Licence, and your own vehicle is an advantage
  • You must have full working rights in NZ
  • Active Duty Manager’s Certificate or LCQ preferred
